Saturday was an exciting day for us here in the Central Valley. 8000 visitors came for the first day of the Sacramento Temple Open House and everything went surprisingly smoothly. We have been experiencing crazy heat waves, along with the rest of the West coast, but the wave crashed and it was 90 degrees, breezy and pleasant. We couldn't have asked for better weather. The temple is beautiful, of course. Surprisingly small, but it should work just fine for the 70,000 members of the LDS church here.
David got tickets early so his sisters, brothers-in-law, and their kids came up and we made a day of it. Calvin protested the booties that you have to wear to keep the new carpet clean, so he had to be carried the whole way. Henry had a great time being with his cousins one last time before we move. We hit the cheesecake Factory on the way home and this afternoon I savored the rest of my Lemon Raspberry cheesecake. Yummy!
I was a little disappointed that we are moving right when we get a temple close by, but then we found out that the town we are moving to in the Pacific Northwest has a temple that will be even closer! Blessings in all things.

I'm looking forward to seeing it too - and a bit disappointed that we won't have a chance to do a session there - which we would probably have done on one of our visits to you guys!
But like you said, now we can visit the Portland Temple instead.
I've already heard 4 people here in our stake mention that they are headed north to visit the Sacramento Temple!!
what cute pics! i'm excited to go on wednesday with me padres. were there protesters outside? i'm still worried about my duties as pre-set coordinator should the bomb threats come...."JUST CALL SECURITY!"
Since the Church owns a ton ofthe land andthatmakesit private property and the other sideofthe Temple is that Aerojet place that has MEGA security there was really no place for the protestors to go. There were maybe 5 people out on Prairie Village Road (or whatever the name of that busy street is.) They were telling us that there is only 1 God and I said, "I completely agree."
So the protestors were surprisingly non-existant. We'll see what happens today when I go and work my shift as a ticket taker.
I like the P-land temple. It's very woodsy.
And this one looks nice too.
Beautiful temple! I envy you the lemon rasberry cheesecake, that was my all time fav when I worked there!!!
what a neat experience for your family - we had a great time taking all the kids through the newport temple - although annika was super wiggly.
i think you should use the top pic for your christmas card - henry looks like he's going - what was i thinking?
