Some people have said that having three kids is really hard. I have discovered that it is not having three kids that is difficult, it's having a three year old.
My in-laws left this morning after a week of being VERY helpful. I was feeling good so I thought we could run out to get a birthday present for a party Henry has tomorrow. Bad idea.
Just when I thought that things were going so well, we had picked up everything on our list and were heading to check out when Calvin decided that he was going to get the Thomas the Train laptop. It costs $30. So of course I informed him that he could ask for it for his birthday or if he decided that he would start to wear underwear that could be his prize (I was feeling generous).
He vetoed both of those plans and decided to have a tantrum all the way to the checkout, through the checkout process, into the parking lot and all the way home, where he was directed into his room and he is now sleeping.
Of course I saw a gal from my ward. Luckily she is good natured and just laughed at Calvin. Unfortunately, there are always those "lookie-loos" You know the ones that slow down on the highway to get a really good look at the car accidents? Well, there were plenty of those out this morning. (And I hope none of my readers fall into this category) I hope they got their fill because I am not headed back any time soon. I may have to wait until Calvin turns four.
PS The other two children were perfectly behaved the entire time.

Just look right back at those people, stay real calm and tell them without any emotion "It's been one of those days". Most of them will blink, give a small smile and walk on. Don't ask me how I know...
Anybody who knows anything about children knows exactly what you were going through - and didn't think anything less of you for it!!!
And on the bright side? You're next outing is bound to be better.
Agnes is adorable by the way!
Ned had quite the tantrum in the post office today because I wouldn't let him put my PIN into the card machine. I just hope all the people watching either have or had kids and remember what it's like. I just tried to keep my composure and just ignore the behavior as much possible.
OH man! Good thing he is so darn cute, people probley just saw his good looks and didnt think anything else of it!
Phoebe, I feel for you! I had a bad experience once with all 3 children when Macey was little. It is hard!
i had a tantrum on wednesday night during our family reunion - poor bruce.
although it wasn't in public.
and i feel your pain. each of my children has pulled a public tanturm.
I'm sure my kids had tantrums - in public - but I really can't remember the details - so you can look forward to the blessed ignorance of advancing years!
And you were child number three for me!
Those experiences always raised my blood pressure.
I have had many of those, in fact, one not so long ago over a tube of lip gloss, also at Target. Maybe Target brings out the worst in our kids! Anyways, I can't help but smile at Calvin's spunky personality!
