Do you have a list of books that you want to read? I do. I try to remember to put them on hold (or more realistically, have David put them on hold for me) at the library. I try. David is very helpful when it comes to my library habit. He loves to go there and pick up movies and my hold books. He does not find the library stressful the way that I do. He doesn't mind taking the kids there. I do. So another household chore falls on David's shoulders. Literacy.
Anyway, I have been doing a pretty good job of keeping track of things I want to read. I kept hearing about History of Love. It's come up on Goodreads, a friend's exclusive book group just read it, and I read something about it somewhere (isn't that how it always is?). So after placing it on hold, having David go and pick it up, trekking it to Idaho and back, I finally had a chance to lay down and start into it. Only to discover that I read this very book, probably the same copy even, a few short months ago. How did I miss this? The cover didn't even look familiar.
My only consolation is that I realized this on page one and not on page 250.

Is there a chance that you might have been thinking of Everything is Illuminated and not History of Love? Because it's essentially the same book, I am finding out. I guess that's what happens to your creativity when you get married.
The exclusivity of the book group is intriguing, and I'm wondering if this jab will get you an invite...
I have never re read a book and this has never happened to me. I do not rewatch movies either. OK well, Steel Magnolias but that's it. But I forget everything else all the time.
Your suggestion on never leaving parishables in the lazy susan in the van... priceless! I was already considering putting emergency food down there and I'll have to really think about what spoils and what doesn't. Thanks.
I just re-watched Steel Magnolias! I only re-read a few books and History of Love is not going to be one of them.
I am currently shopping for a new book group, in case you hadn't noticed. However, I am pretty certain that I can't find another group of conservative racy women who read.
Yes, the mind goes...but look how happy those 70 year old silver streaks are. Bliss. That is funny though...reading the same book twice. A good book club, like husbands, are hard to find. Keep looking.
Don't even get me started. This business about being 30 is way overrated. If I would have known I'd loose my mind, I would have stayed 29 forever.
So funny, I just watched Steel Magnolias the other night. It's a dandy!
I totally wrote you a nice long comment but I obviously did something wrong!
ah, the elusive book group - if only I had control.
Sabrina's sister-in-law here. This post just made me think of a client I work for, www.bibliopages.com. They sell a Book Journal where you can keep track of what you've read, what you want to read, etc. Of course there are Web sites that do the same thing, but it might be nice to have a journal?
Can I join your exclusive (elusive) book group too? Mine stinks! It's basically 'girls' night out' since I am pretty much the only one who ever reads the book and the rest come just to socialize. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it is called book group.....
And sorry I'm commenting so late. We just got back from Idaho yesterday. I'm so jealous that you got to go to McCall. I missed out on our trip this year.
