David and I took the opportunity to introduce our children to the joy of the carnival. Portland hosts the Rose Festival every year and let me tell you it's nothing like the Rose parade of Pasadena. This festival was in town for 3 weeks so that they could ensure that at least a few days would fall on good weather. We let Henry play hooky from school one afternoon and took the kids down before they started charging and entrance fee at 4 p.m. Everyone had a good time and we even took out a second mortgage so that we could afford to let each child ride one ride.
Henry proved to be wise child that chose to go on the Bumper cars. He managed to pick the one ride that had no one in line and no possibility of anyone getting in line. The ride operator (I think he must have been a traveling Ricky Martin impersonator) let all of us ride and only charged us for one ticket. Which is a good thing because how pathetic must it be to ride the bumper cars without ANYONE ELSE on the ride. Good old Ricky Martin let us all ride and let us go for 5 turns. Awesome! And it was such a good move for him. So many passersby saw that we were having such a fabulous time on the ride that by the time we were done there was a pretty good line waiting for a turn. Way to go, Ricky!
I think that I have had enough of Carnies, elephant ears, cheap-o prizes and scary, dilapidated rides to last another year.

Carnivals are fun/scary/dangerous - and they just keep coming back.
They were the highlight of my childhood - and now I try to avoid them - go figure.
Glad the kids had fun though - and glad Agnes got a nap!!
Ah, yes, the joys of taking a second mortgage to allow your children to ride a carnival ride. I know of this. Only it was th Cherry festival for us. (One year we talked our kids into saving the money and going to Lagoon instead, more carnival rides for your buck.)
My question is, was there deep fried Twinkies being served? I've heard many a good thing about the strange idea of a deep fried Twinkie but have never had the opportunity to try one.
I have fond memories of the Rose Festival. So fun and money well spent, you'll pay off that mortgage some day and look at the memories you have in return.
Cute Agnes. We need to get her and Molly together one day. I just know they would be fast friends.
I love Agnes's flower...where did you get it?
Agnes' flower is courtesy of Darlybird.com. It's a favorite!
are you growing out your hair? it's longer than usual. looks cute! and i love your shirt, too.
