And then it flew up my skirt and other adventures of a play date

Last week we went to the park with some friends from Church. It was a lovely day-started out cold and then the sun came out and warmed up just in time for some playing. It's the ideal play date since this family has kids the same age as Henry and Calvin and they actually play together. Perfect!

While the kids were running and playing on this HUGE play structure the adults were hanging out, discussing family reunion tactics and planning, and eating Twinkies (literally-they brought Twinkies-which totally made my day). Meanwhile a pesky little bee would not leave us alone! I was trying to shoo it away from a sleeping Agnes and I finally got rid of it. Or so I thought.

Suddenly a pain unlike anything I have felt for many years seared up my leg. The blasted bee had flown UP my skirt and stung my inner thigh! Could I have had a more awkward situation? Public place, killer bee sting, skirt , modesty concerns, and some amount of screaming that was only drawing more attention to myself?

Apparently I have been stung a few too many times in my life. My body is now reacting to bee stings! I asked David if he thing I need to get a Bee Sting Kit like Melanie my childhood neighbor had. I really wanted one of those kits. David claims that my reaction to the sting does not warrant a kit. I disagree. What if next time I go into shock and start to wheeze? David will be wishing he had a kit with him to save me.

Needless to say, when the nurse says the shot is just like a tiny bee sting, I don't think she is lying! That sting hurts like the devil, still itches a week later, swelled up and turned red and is still red and swollen and required some medication. Gauging Agnes' reaction to her shots last week, I think they must have been very much like a bee sting.

For as painful as that whole experience was - thanks for the chuckle. Glad you survived, cause that stinging little devil of a bee didn't.

Remember when I got stung by a bee under my ring fingernail at Girls' Camp at Catalina??

Thank goodness lovely Rita was standing next to me when it happened and had me take off my wedding ring.

I could have lost my finger!!

Oh my, how embarrassing! I'm glad it was you and not me, I'm pretty sure I would have disrobed right then and there to rid myself of the bee! I hope you get feeling better soon. ;)

Phoebe! Ouch! Im sorry. This reminds me of when I was 12, I went camping with my friend Kristy and a bee flew up my skirt and stung my on my butt! (why I was wearing a skirt camping is a total mystery to this day) I was mortified that her dad had to help me and her brothers teased me all day..at least you had David :) Hope you feel better soon..

I can totally relate! A few years ago I had a bee fly up my skirt at the lake---it hurt like the devil... much worst than what I remember as a child. Like yours, mine hurt for a week! It gave me a new respect for bees (and fear)

I feel your pain. Really. When I got stung on my leg(while wearing my pants) earlier this summer I pretty much pants myself in front of my daughter.

you deserve a bee kit - and a new bag in which to carry it.

This was fantastic to read. Sorry about the bee sting, but it may have given us just a tiny hint into The Secret Life of Bees.

I've never been stung, and am worried that I am secretly allergic.
Your story has added a new dimension to my fear of bees!
