8!

Our sweet Calvin has had quite a month!
Turning 8 is a lot of work and involves a lot of celebrating,
fortunately we were all happy to participate.

We played hooky on his birthday. I picked him up for his checkup at the pediatrician (don't worry- he didn't have to have any shots) and then we went out to lunch at Burgerville.

Calvin earned his Bobcat!
Do you recognize David, the Cub Master is a mullet wig?  I never know what he is going to come up with for Pack Meetings.

He chose a few friends to take to John's Incredible Pizza for dinner and games in lieu of a full on party. Unfortunately this is the only picture I took because I was too busy enjoying myself on the bumper cars and playing Wack-a-Mole.

Calvin spent the entire fall following his sibs to their games.
He opted out of a sport this fall, so he had the job of being head cheerleader for our family and he did a great job!  I am pretty sure he never felt bad about having to go to all of the football games.

The requested chocolate layer cake for his birthday.
Lucky for him, the grandparents all came for the weekend of celebration!
Calvin was baptized on Saturday October 27th.
I literally took no pictures!  (I am grateful for grandparents who do!)
It was a wonderful night, but a bit of a blur because in our Stake we do individual baptisms, which is really great, but also a bit of work for the families.
I gave the talk, David baptized and confirmed Calvin, the grandfathers were the witnesses and the grandmothers gave the prayers.  Our dear friend, Laila, played the flute and his primary class sang.  The room was full of dear friends and family and I know that Calvin felt very loved.  It was so amazing to look around at all of the people that we have come to know and love after being here for 6 years.  I still can't believe that we have been here that long, but when I realized that when we moved here Calvin was Sully's age it gave me some perspective.
The Grandparents

After his baptism, Calvin chose to go out to dinner with just the grown-ups.  Agnes was very distressed at being left behind, but it was such a great decision.  It was so nice to eat dinner without 4 little people asking us a million questions!  I think this may be a new birthday tradition in our family.

Happy Birthday Calvin!
Although it took you a long time for you to make it to our family, it was worth the wait!

A great weekend indeed - so glad we could be there. Will the coffee filter party hats become a tradition too??
