Berry Delicious

Okay maybe this is why we moved up here.
I made a pie, but it was eaten before I got a chance to take a picture.

Oh, I miss the berries of Oregon! Wild blackberries, every where! Pies year round, jams, Crisps, on top of ice cream. Yummy.

They look divine! btw, I totally know who you are. I moved to Concord right after you moved out (we've just left), and heard all about you - especially at book club!

So jealous! I've wished all summer that we had raspberry bushes in our 'garden'. Yummy!

I only know you via Darlybird.... but I grew up in Oregon. My first job was picking berries. At the time we didn't love that there were so many berries...but now it is a great memory.

Also, the Kite Festival at Lincoln Beach, we LOVE the Tillamook Cheese Facotory (a must do stop on the way to the beach), the sand dunes, the temple, the Nike store, the trees everywhere on the freeways.........

I grew up next to a boysenberry patch - and loved to eat berries warm from the sun - I still prefer most fruit that way - except maybe grapes and watermelon.

my mom used to send us out into our wild blackberry bushes in centralia, washington and tell us "i need 4 cups for a pie. pick 8 cups and i'll make 2!" we were busy berry pickers!

JEALOUS!

How are you liking the Beverly Cleary bio? I remember reading that a long time ago, maybe 6th grade or so. I was shocked by some kind of "adult" reference at the time, I don't remember what it was, but I thought to myself, "THIS is the lady who wrote the Ramona books??"

I also got sick to my stomach reading Sweet Valley High at that age, so maybe my hindsight judgment isn't too be trusted.

I just finished the first part of the bio and then there is a 2nd book. I really loved it. I can't think of what the adult reference is, except maybe the creepy uncle who tries to hit on her.
I was mostly surprised at how tenuous her relationship was with her mother. I loved reading all of the Oregon references. I can't wait to check out all of the places she lived.

i've started girl from yamhill - it's good - i don't know why i never finished it.

and be sure to go to the ramona park - the statues are so cute.

and the playground equipment is so old - it totally flashed me back to my childhood.

and berry pie - yum!

you're making me want to make a visit.

It was probably the creepy uncle. And didn't somebody try to hang himself? Or am I thinking of a different bio?

Like I said, I was easily shocked at age 10, so it probably wasn't much.

What I'd want to go visit is Klickitat Street. I'm guessing that doesn't really exist, though.

and a klickitat ferry boat that takes you from anacortes, washington to the san juan islands. it's some sort of american indian name, i think...the klickitat was my absolute favorite of all of the ferry boats. (we went to the sji A LOT!)

those blackberries are BEAUTIFUL!

We picked blackberries a couple months ago, and I like to make homeade ice cream. I find that one part blackberries, 2 parts blueberries, and 4 parts strawberries works pretty well--balances out the stonger flavor of the blackberries with the more subtle (by comparison) flavor of the strawberries and blueberries.

Nathan, you are an amazing young man!

I agree with my dad. Nathan, you are an inspiration for Ice Cream! I have found that blackberries or peaches with Tilamook vanilla bean yogurt is a divine snack as well.
