It's amazing what you find when you try new things.
Our kitchen was out of commission AGAIN on Monday. The tile guy had to come back and fix the mediocre job he did on the grout. So we decided to go out to dinner. DL and I wanted Chinese. Henry was skeptical. He kept asking of the rice had beans, if the noodles had sauce and if you dipped the chicken in ketchup. Apparently when we go out for Chinese food, we must do it without the kids.
I searched some of the local websites to find a decent place and we ended up downtown at a little semi-dive. We got there at 6 pm and it was empty. Great for us! That way our kids didn't bother anyone. And the hostess and waiter thought our children were charming, which always helps. They had huge fish tanks lining the walls and we sat right next to one that kept Calvin and Henry interested for quite a while.
First the soup came and Henry hogged all of mine, even eating the tofu. He claimed it was like Top Ramen. Then the potstickers showed up. He and Calvin devoured those. They were very tasty. The fried rice showed up and Henry even ate the vegetables mixed into it. It was the perfect fried rice, very tasty without being greasy. Our Lemon Chicken showed up, at that point the boys were full, but DL and I enjoyed the rest of our dinner and the children behaved as they should.
It was a Christmas Miracle.
On our way out Henry said, "We should come back tomorrow and get more of that soup."
Maybe I am saying farewell to my picky eater?

our kids like eating out too - thai and indian are tasty for kids as well.
Are you sure this is the same Henry who refused an oatmeal cookie at my place? So glad to hear he is expanding his food choices.
Hooray for good eating! It's so exciting when your kids actually taste something and THEN decide whether to like it. Congrats.
you're so lucky. I'm hoping that day will come for my 3 children sometime. Even if it came for just one of them I would be so happy.
jaden is so in love with noodle city. he even asked if we could go there for dessert last week. his favorites are dan dan noodles (noodles with peanut sauce) and seafood dumplings--he has no idea there is shrimp AND crab in them.
