Lazing at the Lake

This year Henry is taking swimming lessons at the Lake. I was feeling a little cruel at first since it was 65 degrees and rainy the first week. They aren't kidding when the locals say summer doesn't really start until July. But I figure that if he learns how to swim in an extreme situation, he'll be REALLy safe in other water situations.
Luckily, we borrowed a wetsuit from the Van Wag's and Henry has improved. He is still skeptical because he can't see the bottom, but he is actually starting to swim. When we went in our pool the other day, he was really swimming. He says it is because he can see in that pool and it isn't freezing cold.
Calvin loves going to Henry's lessons because there is a park with a play structure and a baby pool where he can play. The Snack Shack is also a big incentive for the two of them.
And after lessons are over, we hang out with our friends, catch some rays ,and get wet.
The great part is that I don't have to teach Henry how to swim. I really don't have the patience to teach my own children. And it doesn't hurt that lessons are $10 for two weeks. And since we are residents of this fine city we get into the lake swim park for free. So this is great entertainment for $1 a day, plus the cost of the Snack Shack

It looks like some great summer weather there in Oregon. I guess that beats the not so fun rainy season

i love the "if he learns to swim in extreme conditions, he'll be ready for anything" idea.

What fun! I love that he is learning to swim in a lake- and for $10 it's a steal.

I told Matt about Henry's swimming lessons in "the lake" and we both enjoyed the story. Good idea. I would do the same thing. I want my kids to be strong swimmers.

I say "the lake" because we were wondering what lake. Oswego I suppose!
