Do you want the bad news or the bad news?

The Dermatologist was surprisingly competent. I was a little nervous when I got there and the receptionist looked to be 18, had a heavy accent, had spelled my name wrong, had my phone number wrong and appeared to be wearing a floor length, shimmery gown. After I got past that and met the doctor, I was somewhat relieved.
The doctor's verdict?

She doesn't know what it is. It is not something I ate. It looks to be a contact reaction to something. I get to put ointment on my face 2x a day and I cannot wash my face with anything other than water. She wants to see me again in a week.
If it has not cleared up in a week she is concerned that it might be an Autoimmune disease.

WHAT!?

Then she will have to biopsy my FACE.

WHAT?!

Is this from an episode of House?

In the meantime I will be the one wandering around with a shiny, unwashed, sunburned looking face trying to supress my urge to SCRATCH.

I think these glasses will do a good job of disguising it. Do you think anyone will notice if I wear them to church? or at night?

Here's hoping you get over it quick! The autoimmune disease suggestion reminds me of many recent visits to our pediatrician (not gaining weight? celiac disease...not talking? well, you heard that one) - I've learned he's just an alarmist. I guess I should be thankful he's watching out for things and that so far none of his worst case scenarios have been right?

You, Phoebe, are a very funny girl. The rash however; not so funny. I hope it goes away soon. All on its own.

Oy. The first pic looks like really rosy cheeks. The second...not so much. The third, however, shows an effective way of disguising this little issue.

Sorry, friend.

when I was 16, I worked for a dirty, mean, caveman of a dermatologist, and lacking proper medical procedures, he had us filers/typers/receptionists assist in the biopsies.

I'm glad you found better but I really hope they don't actually have to do that with your face!

You have gorgeous skin, rash and all. Do you even have a pore on that blemish free face? I think the glasses hide it well, and it does kinda look like you have rosy cheeks. Good luck with that!

Okay Phoebe, this happened to my about 25+ years ago. I went from doctor to doctor because it kept returning. They finally prescribed Acutane, which is pretty dangerous for women of childbearing age to take, but I didn't know that at the time. And it cleared it up. They said it was rosacea - and it has returned over the years, not always on my face.

But it is a terrible affliction - no doubt about it - you have my sympathy totally!!

Let us know how you fare!

How does a face biopsy even work?

I am imagining all sorts of ghastly things.

However, I bet you won't need one. (says Dr. Eliza) Really, I have a good feeling about this. Definitely go ahead and stay away from Accutane though...yikes...

breast milk - on your face - sounds weird, but breast milk heals everything.

that's Dr. Bonny's recommendation. not to be confused with Dr. Bronner.

and i'm impressed you are still smiling.

that's got to help it as well.

It's already LOOKING better, but the itching, it's killing me, I want to take a brillo pad to it.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement. And yes, I will stear clear of Acutane.

Breastmilk. I have plenty of that. Good thing this didn't happen a year ago.

Your skin is still beautiful, I am not blessed in that department but I do understand the frustration. Here's to a speedy recovery of the beautiful skin!

Thank you for the photos. You are looking good despite current affliction. Life can really be amazing, huh?

You're pretty anyhow.

Time for a second opinion?

i hope you get well quickly and don't have to deal with more than a shiny face.

Chrissy,
I can't believe that you had to participate in "medical procedures" when you were still in High School! I am so glad that wasn't my experience.
Geo,
I am definitely looking for a second opinion if this "autoimmune disease" talk keeps going on.
But really, it already looks so much better.

oh, ph: so so so so sorry! at least it's not bell's palsy, right?

i, the ultimate hypochondriac, think it's just a mixture of bonkers post-preg hormones mixed with a little stress and lack of sleep. i think you need a weeekend at a spa. i'll join you.

Bonny, at first I thought your breastmilk suggestion was a response to my question about how a face biopsy works. "Interesting..." I thought for just a second.

Only you could still look good with a facial rash! Dang! It better not be an autoimmune disease, however!!!!!! I love ya!
