Recently my friend Janelle posted about each of her daughters "songs". I have since been wondering what songs "belong" to my children, or more specifically to their infancy. After much consideration (since these things are very important and worthy of much thought) here is the final cut.
Henry- Zion by Lauryn Hill
Calvin- Godspeed by Dixie Chicks
Agnes- I Love You by Cat Stevens
What are your songs?

Since I don't have any children, I guess I can pick a song for myself. But I've never thought that this was a fair question. It's kind of like my favorite foods... they're all just fitting for different moods.
But for longevity I will choose "With Or Without You" by U2, because it's the only song that I think that I have liked consistently since a young age. I also remember wanting to play it at my wedding before I realized the words aren't really that romantic.
hmmmm...a hard question. I don't think I could answer it. Matt sings "Running to Stand Still" by U2 to Theo when he is sad and Theo loves it. It has a very soothing melody. I, however, have put my foot down and said "No drug songs." So he changed the words, at least he says he did.
I listened to "I Love You" a lot when I was pregnant and thought about the baby I hadn't met yet. Then when he came I sang "Lullabye" by Ben Folds Five and "Moon River" to him a lot. He also loves "Baby Mine." I think I will need to wait until he's not a baby anymore so that I can properly evaluate.
I love yours! Mine are:
Tanner: The Luckiest by Ben Folds
Grace: Gracie girl again by Ben F.
Eva: undecided as of yet...maybe THe things we've handed down by Marc Cohn???? Undecided
So what does it say about me that the songs I think about in relation to my kids are kids songs? (Maybe that I didn't listen to popular music very much!)
We had an album of songs when Bonny and Harry were little called "What a Wonderful Thing is Me" and I still sing the please and thank you song from that to anyone who will listen.
And Abba songs are Terrill songs.
As are the Disco Disney songs.
Raffi songs go with the "little kids."
And "In the Hall of the Mountain King" is a Terrill staple.
But the Wombles go with everyone!
Anything by the Dixie Chicks makes me think of Phoebe. Oh yes, and Willy Nelson.
Dad said: Bonny - Shaun Cassidy - how could I forget???
And I'm still singing "I'm Proud of You, I'm Proud of You" from Mr. Rogers to anyone who will sit still long enough to hear it.
Seth - It's Such a Happy Day by Jackie Gleason
Alice- Banana Split For My Baby by Louis Prima
Thomas- Our Love is Here to Stay by Frank Sinatra (only the Sinatra version, no wannabes.)
Well, for Olivia there was "I knew I loved you before I met you" by Savage Garden, and for the twins, "100 years" by Five for Fighting, because that's what was playing in the OR when they were torn from me.
