Here is how it went down. In Calvin's own words.
I all falled off my bike at the top hill and I was all crying.
I went to dentist. Dr. Hoof (not his real name, just what Calvin calls him) got it all knocked out. 'Cause my toof was broke-it.
I sat on the chair. The space mask on my nose. It smell like strawberries.
There is a hole in my mouf. A hole. You gotta see.
Dr. Hoof put water in there. My toof got knock out and I go to Jamba Juice.
The End
One of the more traumatic moments of motherhood, but I think we both survived. Fortunately, we have the GREATEST pediatric Dentist. Calvin fell at 4:30, we were in the office having X-rays at 4:50. Unfortunately, the tooth had a vertical fracture that was "beyond repair". It looked awful and I didn't have much hope that it could be saved. I kind of wish I had gotten a picture of it. The staff was so impressed at how brave Calvin was. He didn't even flinch. The kid has amazing pain tolerance.
Now I just have to get used to seeing Calvin looking so grown up. So sad. Especially for Henry, he still hasn't lost a tooth!

Wowzers! I have assisted with a little boy, about his age, who fell off his scooter and into his handle bar. We had to give him an IV so we could work. Poor little guy! What a brave big boy he is! Tell him he's braver than some of the big guys who come into my work and have to get a tooth pulled!!! This is one time you'll never forget. Neither will he!
Are bikes banned now? I'd be tempted!
My daughter who is almost six ran into "the barbie box" (A sterilite tote)that my sister was carrying, when she was 2 1/2. It killed the tooth. We finally had to have it pulled last fall. The same exact tooth, too!
Ouch--how scary and sad. What a brave guy though!
He still looks so cute, it didn't change that. I love that you recounted the whole thing in his words. I wish I remembered to do that more. It tells the whole story.
poor henry
brave calvin
so will the tooth fairy come - and if so - what will she bring?
yep... still adorable!!! I can't believe this crazy story, but glad to hear you and him are doing well.
I feel his pain literally! I lost 4 teeth due to a sister and a bike accident. (sorry Amy, no hard feelings....anymore)!
The Tooth Fairy is coming tonight. And since Calvin's tooth was knocked out (and since he doesn't grasp the money concept) he will get a gift. I am thinking Build-a-Bear. He has never been there and he is so intrigued by the store every time we pass it. We'll see if he likes it as much as I think he will!
At least he seems proud of it. Peter has just barely chipped both of his front teeth (it's hardly noticeable) and I keep wondering how he did it. I should probably just be amazed that he hasn't knocked them out.
Way to go Calvin!
At least it wasn't a permanent tooth. Toby fell ice skating a couple years ago and broke both front teeth. He is now the proud owner of 2 root canals and 2 crowns. Thank heavens for great dentists!
You've probably already thought of this, but he and Antenna can totally commiserate. I'm sure Mom has pictures of that particular tooth-knocking, bike-falling event (well the aftermath anyway) if you are interested.
That is, if he is in a commiserating mood. Sounds like he took it all in stride! Good news for Henry, at least even if he hasn't lost a tooth yet he will lose a bunch more before Calvin's start falling out on their own.
Oh, Phoebes, I'm so sorry! How painful! But, you know what? Nothing changes how absolutely freakin cute he is...in fact...it may have just enhanced it...especially with his recap of his experience!
Phoebe, that is such a great story. But must have been scary for you. I'm glad it was just his tooth and not stitches or anything like that. He still looks really cute!
I too loved reading what he said about it all, that is the cutest thing ever!So sorry about the accident but I am glad he handled it like the champ we all know he is :)
I'm with Denae- I would have been freaking out. I think it's worse for the moms sometimes. It sounds like you all handled it very well! And I love that you wrote down his words. He looks so cute and very grown up.
Oy vey! Scary. And mouth wounds bleed a lot. Glad he was a brave boy!
Ouch. Hope everyone else is doing good...teeth and all. Was thinking about you today. Decided that I'm definitly going to Swiss Days this year and I can't help but think of the Malibu.
i adore calvin's retelling of the event. i just wish i could hear it in person. his little deep, serious voice is so cute.
leah so badly wants to lose teeth. the dentist actually told her to wiggle them a little each day and they'll come out faster. nothing like a child obsessively wobbling their teeth!
Hannah's teeth losing adventures have been blogged on one of the anniversary posts - maybe '90 or '91 I think.
Calvin is so brave.
Phoebe you have such a beautiful family. Cool blog.
Amy
I can see the dentist's advertising: Dr. Hoof & Mouth.
As for Hanula Flannigan, I remember vividly unhooking her upper lip from her front tooth that had gotten stuck during the fall.
Calvin, you are a poet.
Calvin is so tough and you are one super mom to keep your cool.
