the newest member of the family

Meet my niece, Ida Rachel.
Born October 12th.
My sister, Eliza, is a rock star- a drug-free VBAC. It can be done! Hooray and congratulations!

Bonny and I were noticing a trend. All of the sisters' first born daughters are named for their great-great grandmothers. And all the names start with vowels. Does that make sense? Anyway, it's all very exciting and I can't wait to meet her.

There is a veritable treasure-trove of wonderful names to found in great-great grandmothers!!

A good trend.

So what's Robbie's great-great grandmother's name Hannah??

You have several great-great grandmothers - with some interesting names!

So... if I named my first born daughter after her great-great grandmother, her name would be Ila. I think. Ila May. I guess that's out of the running.

But the other option on the Hamill side is Ethel.

There is still hope.

Or Irintha... even BETTER (Terrill side). Except she's three greats, I think.

Your great grandmother's names on my side are Mima Lillian, Agnes Marrietta, Genieve, and Alberta.

Maybe the trend will end!

No offense to anyone - Dad actually wanted to use the name Alberta - it had unfortunate connotations for me!

thanks for the nice post, phoebe!

no pressure, hannah.

i do like irintha a lot. and mima (short for jemima? i do really like jemima, "aunt jemima" notwithstanding). alberta isn't bad except the "bert" part can be off-putting.

well, in case you don't go for the great-great-grandmother/vowel combo, you can take comfort that i didn't go for the alliterative married name.

also i like ethel...ethel hamill, very catchy.

sorry hannah, i am getting a little carried away planning for your firstborn daughter.

What a nice post. She looks beautiful after a drug free delivery. So calm. She is my new inspiration......but I want my drugs, in the parking lot preferably.

I can't believe your sis had a drug free experience and looks so pretty! Congrats on another beautiful niece.

I like Ethel as well. It was David's grandma's name and I have very fond memories of her. Irintha is a keeper, too.
Hannah, Just tell Robbie that we'll take care of the naming business when the time comes. I am sure he'll love that!

Hannah, here are the names of grandmothers on Robbie's side. Ila May. Edith Ethyl. Evelyn Bertha. Notice that you have a wide choice of vowels to choose from! Also, but not along the vowel theme, Lois, whose nickname was Loda, and Mary Ann.

(I know you will make this a matter of prayer when the time comes.)
