So you wanted some pictures?

I somehow thought that it wouldn't be a big deal to paint the BLACK hutch white. Needless to say it turned into quite a project. 6 cans of spray paint, half a gallon of white paint, an unexpected rainstorm, a lot of sandpaper and a desperate attempt to cover the back of the shelves proved to be somewhat successful. It actually attracted the entire neighborhood to come and weigh in on my project throughout the day. That's right, I am all about building community relationships. And to top it off my parents were visiting and had to live through the disarray. I am still really sorry about that!
I have had a smaller hutch for years (thank you very much, Hillary!). I still have it (in storage, of course), but I needed something that had more storage to use in our tiny house.
One I got the hutch into the dining room I decided that I really needed a different table. Something round that would create a better flow in our really large, hard-to-use dining space. A few days looking on Craigslist and $25 later we found a new table. I love the pedestal and the color of the stain. I tell you, Oak is coming back in a big way, contrary to popular belief. And in a crazy stroke of luck our neighbor wanted our very cool Ikea table. I was really sad to see the Norden go, but I know that I can go and visit it anytime I want and I was happy to only spend 2 days with 2 dining tables in our house!

I am thinking that if anyone understands disarray for visitors it would be Mom and Dad. I'm sure you joked about it a few times. Anyway it's nice to have family that understands.

I love it. Did you use spray adhesive for the back? I have to ask because I have tried spray adhesive and it was much too tedious for my taste (especially since it was on a $30 Ikea bookcase that I will not have forever, here's hoping). It looks great. Way to be ahead of trend with the oak. Actually I think oak can look great in the right surroundings, and your dining room looks fabulous.

Beautiful! I love round tables, probably because we grew up with one in our house as kids. And now your kids will love them too!
