A while ago my good friend Darlybird made me a copy of the Best of NKOTB CD. It brings back so many memories. Then when I was cleaning out the closets I found this gem of a momento. Yes, it is the program from the New Kids On the Block concert I went to in 7th grade.
Actually, I think the were starting to go by NKOTB at that point. My best friend Jenny S and I really wanted to go to the concert and we couldn't figure out who would take us. Until my lovely sister, Bonny, volunteered to come down from UCSB and take us if we paid for her ticket. If I remember correctly we paid $60 for each ticket. We were dedicated 12 year old fans. I must have babysat for days to come up with that money.
I am glad that I went. I feel that it was a rite of passage for any teenager to go and see the current heartthrobs live in concert. We had fun, Jenny's sister, Summer, screamed the entire time and we were certain that we might actually get to meet one of the New Kids. I hate to admit that it never happened. I bought a t-shirt in the parking lot from some shady charatcer and later I sent it to Harry when he was at BYU. I think he actually wore it around a few times and got some reactions.
So now I am ready to let go of the program. I have taken pictures and documented my feelings about it.
And for the record, Jordan was defintely the cutest. And Danny just always looked goofy. And Donny is the only one who went on to really do anything of merit, despite his bad boy image. And who chose their wardrobe and did their hair? That will be a question for the ages.

I don't know, I always thought Jonathan and Joey gave Jordan a little bit of a run for his money.
I love that your label is "hangin' tough" That is funny. And imagining you as a 12 yr. old at the NKOTB concert is so funny. If I had known you when I was 12 I would have been very jealous.
I can remember when I was 15 yrs.old I went to see the Monkeys at the Hollywood Bowl. My friend Sue Petty talked her sister into taking us. I even made a jacket and slacks. The jacket was plaid/pink and the slacks were a hot pink. The fashion back in the middle '60's. I remember having a great time. I have only been to Neil Diamond at (BYU), The Association at (Granada Hills High, I sold a lot of chocolate to go to that concert, and Kenny Rogers at (Ricks College). Those were the days. This is Aunt Mary on Donna's blog
Sell it and make a pretty penny on eBay! Or give it to me--I could use some framed 8x10s of the Boys from Beantown.
What a great post - good for a chuckle! I don't know why, but I never liked NKOTB and it was something I was very proud of back in the day. So, I never made it to an NKOTB concert, but I did see Duran Duran in high school.
I loved new kids on the block when they came out. I always wanted to go to a concert. Don't know why I didn't. Maybe the $60 dollars had something to do with it.
yes that was a good time, although i was ready to strangle summer by the end of the night.
i'm laughing, ph, because just today leah was getting out a video to watch and i saw my NKOTB Step by Step video in the drawer. why in the heck have I kept it this long? It must be real love . . .
