It has begun

Calvin has decided that he wants to pick out his clothes. I know that I am haunted with this dilemma because I gave my mother so much grief about my own clothing as a child. And I am still picky, to which DL will attest.
Calvin now enjoys some dress up clothes and pretty much anything Spiderman, although he has never seen a Spiderman show so I am not sure what the draw is. Yesterday he kept saying he wanted "Spiderman Shorts". We do not own any Spiderman shorts. After much frustration he went down to his dresser and pulled out his swimming trunks. The trunks that have LOBSTERS on them. Apparently they look like Spidey to Calvin. So he wore them all day. It was 60 degrees out and we had to go visit his pre-school. I figured they got to see a little bit of the true Calvin.
Then again this morning there was much weeping and wailing. After I assured him that his "Spiderman shorts" were indeed in the washer and could not be worn, he finally got dressed. Then the crying started all over again. He didn't like the shirt I had picked out. So down he went and chose his own shirt and once he was changed, went happily on with his day.
My only consolation is that in 8 weeks I will have a new baby that doesn't care what clothing is put on it's body. At least not for the first year.

Aspen wore a leotard, butterfly wings and/or a skirt with dress up shoes for more than 3 years, nearly every day. She also insisted on wearing these cheap canvas glitter covered purple pants (which I hated and nated bought for Aspen just to spite me) all the time. I guess there are worse things that kids could insist on.

I feel your pain - Peter asked to wear his fish pajamas two nights ago and refused to wear anything else. The biggest problem is that he doesn't have any fish pajamas

Trevor does the same thing he has a shirt he made at preschool for halloween that he loves to wear. Lets just say it is not very attractive.

When is your due date?

Drake always wants to pick out his own clothes and it drives me nuts. I put my foot down on school days and Sunday. So far Scarett loves to wear what I pick out (I hope this continues through high school).

i let my kids pick out what they want. I resolved the issue by only buying clothes I really love, that way, whatever they choose, it will be something I like.

I actually tried Bonny's approach - but someone will always give your kids something you hate!! (Bonny had a store bought KMart dress given to her at her 4th b-day party - it was hideous - and it was always her first choice - over the lovely dresses I made for her!)

It is indeed poetic justice Phoebe!!

so hilarious! yesterday we had a preschool picnic in the park and leah insisted on wearing her polka dot tights. hello 90 degrees and muggy! she was so uncomfortable and flushed that i begged her to take them off, and she happily obliged. so we hid behind a tree because of course she didn't want anyone to see . . . they are cute tights, but 90 degrees? it makes me sweat just thinking about it.
