I have seen it all

On Saturday we decided to hit the Nordstrom sale (by we, I really mean I and made DL come with me). We scored some deals on the shoes for the kids and then I headed down to check out the Women's shoes. DL headed to See's candy with the kids, so unfortunately he was unable to witness the event.

There was a young mother (early 20's) standing in the walkway in front of BP shoes. Not in the shoe department, but in the main walkway by the escalator. She had a stroller with her with a baby maybe 6 months old, at most. She had on low rise jeans and a shorter tank and was talking to another young woman who was totally decked out. All the lastest trends from head to toe. They seemed to be catching up, as though they hadn't seen each other in a while and maybe don't see each other regularly. As I passed by, I over heard the young mother saying to her friend, "Do you want to see my scar?"

I had to turn around. I couldn't help myself. She was indeed referring to her C-section scar and she did indeed pull down her jeans and show this poor, unsuspecting friend, her C-section scar. IN THE MIDDLE OF NORDSTROM!

Now let me preface this with the fact that I, myself, have a c-section scar and maybe mine is lower than others, but in general the incision is not up very high. And my doctor even joked that I would be able to wear a bikini again (as thought the stretch marks haven't pretty much vetoed that plan from here on out). And very few people have ever seen my scar, except David, my doctor and my mother and mother-in-law.

So although I didn't actually get to see this young woman's scar (I was behind her at this point) I feel as though I have seen it all. And now I know that I can show my scar in the middle of an upper end department store and no one will bat an eye.

It really gives a new perspective on the appropriateness of nursing in public, don't you think?

Oh goodness.

I did show Hannah my scar because she said she wanted to see it.

Otherwise, other than Matt and docs/nurses, I don't know if Mom even saw it.

It's pretty low.

I think reality t.v. has warped minds and tendencies towards restraint.

It does indeed make any kind of flap over nursing in public seem a little absurd.

Maybe it was an appendectomy scar.

Hmmm, maybe it was, Dad. But I am sticking with my gut instinct on this one.

I wasn't expecting that one. Wow! is all I have to say. I believe that scars are pretty low. Mine, I think is....

One the otherhand, why would you want to see a scar? I guess it could be a "battle" wound.

I am shocked... that is just going too far. In the middle of Nordstroms?
