It has been interesting this summer to hear and read about all of my friends and families adventures. My sister living in Paris, friends going here and there enjoying the fine experience of a summer vacation. I, however, made a choice to not leave home this summer. At the time it seemed like a great idea. Last summer, you may remember, was a bit hectic for us. Hannah's wedding (L.A. for two weeks), a sweet trip to NYC with the "Girls", and a family reunion in McCall. So when this summer was rolling around I declared that we would be travel free, staying home to enjoy the beautiful summer weather that is uniquely Oregon. I figure that if I suffered through the rainy winter I should at least stick around for the good part.
I am still unsure if this was a good idea or not. In a lot of ways it has been really stress free. In other ways, I have been a little bored and I have not accomplished nearly what I thought I would be able to. Our kids do not seem to have noticed that we haven't gone anywhere. One weekend camping trip (with dear friends, the Berthrong's) seems to have quenched their desire to travel. So here is the proof that we did indeed "vacation" this summer, after all. We all had such a great time that we kept discussing all of the other trips we were going to take this summer. That is about as far as we got. Just talking about the trips seemed to be enough for all of us!

We never went on trips when I was a kid - so things like Girls' Camp and sleepovers at my Grandma's seemed like high adventure.
I heard about other people's vacations, but it was all very foreign to me.
I truly didn't feel deprived - of course, we spent the summer roaming about our immediate neighborhood - and that seemed like high adventure too!
I understand you completely! As much as I love vacations, we've been so busy this past year that staying home feels blissful.
Talking about trips is like taking a summer vacation in your mind..that counts..right?! your camping trip looked fun!!
Looks like a beautiful vacation!! What a gorgeous place. It is hard finding that balance between funfilled, crazy summer where you are gone most of it like ours was , and it always goes way to fast...and just a relaxing summer, enjoying your kids and being home for once. I am jealous of yours.
It looks like your camping trip with the Berthrong's was a great vacation in and of itself! I can't believe how big their boys have grown!
Where did you go camping? Looks like familiar territory. Staying home and enjoying the beautiful weather here is a treat. You will be amazing as ward activities chair!
We camped up at Frog Lake near Mt. Hood. It really was fun.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Stacy-I'll need it!
